Who We Are Matt Thompson

Matt Thompson

Matt Thompson joined SURF in March 2009 as a Research Assistant. Prior to joining SURF, he completed degrees at the University of Sussex in Environmental Science (BSc, 1999), the University of Salford in Environmental Resources (MSc, 2001) and the University of Sheffield in Planning Research (MA, 2003). Matt also holds a doctorate in Transnational Environmental Policy Making in Northern Europe (2007) from the University of Sheffield. His wider research interests are on responses to climate change, multi-level governance and the interface between science and policy making.

Matt provides research assistance for SURF’s involvement with the Innovation Involving Hydrogen Energy: Scale and Demonstration project, funded through the EPSRC Supergen research programme. In doing this he contributes to the development of SURF's agenda on sustainable hydrogen energy and renewable energy technologies. This agenda provides a multidisciplinary analysis of the challenges for cities and regions in innovating with hydrogen and renewable energy technologies, and in reshaping the social and technical organisation of cities’ energy systems.
